LEAVING RUSSIA AFTER 10 YEARS

Leaving Russia wasn’t something I actively thought about for a long time. Russia had become home. Budding friendships, the African community, church, a growing business, and more.  Like it’s said, “Everything that has a beginning has an End” and this for now is the end of an Era and I’m going to be sharing all about it in this post.

AT THE AIRPORT

In the beginning,

I completed my high school a.k.a Secondary school in 2014. I was 16 at the time, turning 17 in the same year. Upon graduation, we had to wait for our Secondary School Leaving Certificate (WAEC) having at least 5 credits in the major subjects taken out of 9 will determine your eligibility to get into the University or not. That was the longest wait of my life. An exam that would determine the next steps and the pain of disappointment if you failed, was dreadful. Of course, I did my best but still nursed these fears and stayed hopeful for the best. Thankfully the wait wasn’t so long as the Results were released a month later.

STUDYING MEDICINE IN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE

I grew up in a family of medics. My parents, uncles, and family friends, influenced my choice of becoming a Doctor. I loved and enjoyed visiting the hospital, seeing unwell people get better with the help of doctors and I looked forward to being one of the best physicians in the future. I also read GIFTED HANDS by Ben Carson (did you grow up in a Nigerian home if you didn’t read GIFTED HANDS) and I was further inspired to become that Doctor and impact the world positively. The only issue here was I was going to do it in Russia and Russian language. It was affordable, the admission process was straightforward, and I had the support of my parents, and also had family friends in Russia. I shared more on my journey to Russia here.

This decision to study medicine in Russia ended up preparing me for life as a young girl at 17 and 10 years later, after 3 degrees, 2 cities, multiple flights, and several road trips in Russia, it was time for me to leave this place I called home for a Decade.

MY LAST 3 YEARS IN RUSSIA

I completed my bachelor’s degree in 2021. It was a surreal moment for me as my dream of becoming a doctor finally came to pass. I documented that experience here. As a medical doctor, graduating from medical school is only the start of your medical career. You have to decide on your career pathway and move ahead in that direction. I shared more on pathways post-medical school in this video. In my case, I wasn’t so sure what I wanted however, I had to make a decision. I applied for a scholarship for my postgraduate in Dermatology and Venerology and got in by God’s grace. I continued my medical journey with that pathway.

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA
POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA

Upon completion of my post-grad, I gained clarity about my career path. I knew I wanted to function in the beauty industry.  I want to continue to empower women with the right knowledge and skills to maintain and enhance their beauty. 7 years of active learning, 3 years of practical experience, and training in skin care, it was time to transition to something more.

I’m most grateful to God for the last 10 years in Russia. I grew as a young lady, evolved, and learned many skills.  Became very diligent and resourceful. While Studying, I Juggled multiple side hustles. It was indeed a worthy experience for me.

LEAVING RUSSIA: What’s next?

Leaving Russia was a difficult decision. I’m grateful for the experience and looking forward to the future. I am Leaving Russia to advance my career and most importantly go in the direction God will have me in the next couple of years. I’m back home in Nigeria and building my job as a skincare professional. While I don’t have it all figured out, I trust the one who does. So far it’s been an amazing experience. Taking life, One day at a time, trusting the process, and being contented with my Journey. I’ll document my experiences here, on my YouTube channel, and share tiny bits and pieces of my day-to-day activities on my Instagram. Kindly like this post, comment and do well to follow me on my other platforms. I’ll see you in my next post.
