In a coffee generation like ours, living healthy and keeping fit can be a big struggle. From late-night meals to having little or no time for rest even on weekends. According to WHO, Health can be defined as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease. However, oftentimes, we assume that being slim makes one healthy, and being fat does the opposite. Can I be honest with you? As a slim lady myself, this has also been one of my biggest struggles, and if you struggling just like me, these 7 healthy habits will help you stay fit. 500°

Drinking water and minding your business as they say keeps you healthy lol. As funny as this might sound, there is so much truth in it. It is recommended that you drink eight 8-ounce (237-mL) glasses of water per day (the 8×8 rule).
Also, drinking water comes with a lot of benefits for your body. Staying hydrated helps maximize your physical performance. It significantly affects your energy levels and brain function. You can read up on more benefits of staying hydrated here

I recently had green tea with jasmine leaves, I am sold. I’m not a tea person but for someone that struggles with drinking water, it’s a good one.

2. Don’t Skip Breakfast

I agree with the notion that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. As the name suggests, breakfast breaks the overnight fasting period. Breakfast being the first meal of the day replenishes your supply of glucose. It gives you that burst of energy needed and helps you stay alert throughout the day. It also provides you with the right nutrients for better health. Better health sheds more light on this and you can read it here
Although I believe that all meals are important, breakfast definitely is a meal you shouldn’t consider skipping.

3. Prioritize your mental health
Just like I mentioned earlier, the state of your mind has a lot of influence on your health. Mindfulness practices such as meditation, journaling, yoga, etc. They will help you focus on the present, maintain a rather positive state of mind, deal with your negative self-talk, and overall boost your mental health which in turn keeps you healthy. Having this as a daily practice will help you regulate your emotions and have a greater impact on your overall health.
This quote came to mind recently and I couldn’t agree less. Our body largely functions on glucose which we get from the food that we eat. Naryanna health gives a very precise definition. A balanced diet is a diet that contains differing kinds of foods in certain quantities and proportions so that the requirement for calories, proteins, minerals, vitamins, and alternative nutrients is adequate and a small provision is reserved for additional nutrients to endure the short length of leanness. In addition, a balanced diet ought to offer bioactive phytochemicals like dietary fiber, antioxidants, and nutraceuticals that have positive health advantages. A balanced diet should offer around 60-70% of total calories from carbohydrates, 10-12% from proteins, and 20-25% of total calories from fat.
In summary: Incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet, eat the right proportion of carbohydrates, and protein as well.
5. Develop an active lifestyle
Is it possible to talk about being fit and ignore being active? Absolutely not! Emphasis on active! You don’t have to wait till you can afford a gym membership before you get active. A little 15-minute stretch daily, home workouts, taking a walk, or morning run is a great way to get active.
An active lifestyle helps you to boost your moods, gives you the energy to function at your maximum potential, and just helps you to stay fit.
6. Schedule regular checkups with your Doctor
BP checkup
The saying “prevention is better than cure” comes to mind when talking about this point. Regular checkups at the doctor are very necessary if you want to stay healthy and fit. This will help you observe and listen to your body. Little things like your BMI, your Blood pressure, lab results, etc will help detect illness easily and also prevent you from complications. This healthy habit will help you not only stay healthy but stay fit as well.
7. Prioritise Resting!
One healthy habit that is often neglected is rest. We are in a society that embraces work and simply forgets about rest. It is recommended that as an adult you should have a 7-hour daily night rest. However, that might not be attainable for many as our daily schedules can be packed. In that situation, I will advise that you make allowance for rest in your day-to-day activities, just lying down on a couch for some time, not necessarily sleeping but taking time to just breathe. I will employ you to prioritize rest, both for your body and mind as well.
I hope these 7 healthy habits help you stay fit and build and a healthy lifestyle. You don’t have to start with all because that can be overwhelming. Pick one of these healthy habits, spend time to learn more about them, and how to prioritize them in your life. Repeat it for all and you’ll be on your way to attaining a fit lifestyle.
